Every year, something magical happens when the Gashouder, the most iconic building of tan ex-gasworks fabric, is transformed into the PICNIC Club – the central meeting point for all attendees.
PICNIC’s Art Director, Sylvester Lindemulder, gave us a sneak preview of his designs for PICNIC ’09. This year’s PICNIC Club will emerge as the Creative Capital – a multi-level fantasy city rising out from reclaimed materials in unexpected forms.

Sylvester Lindemulder and his team are creating a multi-level city inside the PICNIC Club
From 23-25 September, PICNIC ‘09 will take over the Westergasfabriek and push the limits of creative possibilities. The Gashouder, known during the festival as the PICNIC Club, is the epicenter of networking during the event. It’s the place to be to meet up, grab a snack, play with interactive installations, and get a feel for what it truly means to be a part of the PICNIC experience.
Inspired by “Rebuild,” one of the central themes of PICNIC ‘09, Sylvester and his team have envisioned a magnificent cityscape, the Creative Capital which will transform the interior of the PICNIC Club. With an eye on sustainability, the design captures the essence of the future while relying on reused and reclaimed materials for its construction.
These images give you just a hint of what you can expect...join us at PICNIC ‘09 to see the final result for yourself!
